Summer is here and it's starting to get HOT. On the days you want to wear makeup, you're bracing yourself for the dreaded melting face of makeup, right? WRONG! You can have beautiful makeup in the summer if you live in a hot climate. Here's my easy, FAST go-to look that I'm constantly wearing this summer.
1 | First things first... SUNSCREEN!
I am a HUGE advocate of sunscreen. I have been wearing sunscreen (30 SPF is sufficient) religiously since I was in my early 20's. I do have a few light sun spots and damage (that's part of being alive!) but by and large I can attribute most of my healthy skin with wearing sunscreen daily. This is crucial in the hotter months because we're all outside more playing and relaxing. I am obsessed with mineral sunscreen because of all the added benefits over chemical sunscreen. But seriously, mineral or chemical, just wear it! It's so important for your skin & your overall health. The sunscreen on the bottom layer not only protects your skin from harmful UVA/UVB sun rays, it also offers a waterproof layer under your makeup that will help everything stay put.
In this look I'm wearing EltaMD UV Elements Tinted Facial Sunscreen SPF 44. I love this brand because it's non-comedogenic, safe for sensitive skin, and cruelty free. If you've never worn sunscreen before, it's important to let it set up for about 15 minutes. After that, you can add a foundation on top or set it with a light dusting of mineral/setting powder.
And yes, you can see a faint sunscreen line around my face, LOL. (I'm waiting for my clear sunscreen to be delivered.) That's the color of the tint. It's a lovely, warm, summery shade. And obviously I'm lighter than that - HOWEVER I would rather be protected than do without my beloved sunscreen. That's just how I role. And this is a very good real life example - just use what you have! I could have blended it more so it wasn't as noticeable but I have twin toddlers so this is as good as it got today ;)
2 | Blush?
For my cheeks I applied Glo Skin Beauty Bronze in Sunlight. (Another Cruelty free cosmetic brand) This is another warm, sunny shade and adds a bit of color to my cheeks without being too obvious. I don't apply blush during the hottest part of the summer unless I'm going out on a date or have a client appointment. If you're like me and you pink up when you get hot, you don't need blush! And less is ALWAYS more in my opinion when it comes to daily makeup.
3 | Eyes
In the crease of my eyes and my lower lash line I applied Glo Skin Beauty Bronze in Sunligh to add some depth and interest to my eyes. Using the same bronze adds a continuity that keeps the look simple and tied together. Top it off with a coat or 2 of mascara.
4 | Want more?
If you want something a little extra, dab a shimmery shade of eye shadow onto the lid of your eyes. It'll open up your eyes and make you look awake and fresh! Any peachy, coppery, or gold shade that's lighter than your bronzer will work!
5 | Lips
Usually my go-to gloss. I lurve a good gloss. Especially if it's minty fresh. :) As I'm getting older, my lips are loosing some color - especially the top one. (Why is that?) Anyway, I have discovered the L'Oréal Paris Infallible Pro Last 2 Step Lipstick in Perpetual Apricot. If you haven't tried this, it's worth $9, promise. One one side you have a gloss-like liquid that that goes on smooth and looks and feels just like colored gloss. You do have to let it dry for a bit until it gets tacky, then apply the lip balm on the other end of the product. It's silky and smooth and gives your Lipstick a lovely dewy satin sheen that keeps it looking fresh all day. It's amazing! You can even EAT it in and it stays put. I give it the taco-proof seal of approval. ;)
6 | Deal with your dewiness.
Sweat & shine happens. Rather that patting on more powder, Blot your face with a tissue. Be sure to double it up so the moisture doesn't rip the tissue and leave little pieces on your face.
That's it! Let me know if you try this super quick summer makeup look! Thanks for reading, friends. :)
